"Don't look now, but Mark Teixeira's slow start may just have been delayed a week.
The Yankees first baseman looked like he was going to put his early-season struggles behind him this year when he hit home runs in four of the team's first five games. But he does not have a hit since Tuesday and is in an 0-for-18 slide that has left his average at .182.
Against the Red Sox, Teixeira went 0-for-12 with six strikeouts, three of them coming last night.
"They pitched me really tough this weekend," Teixeira said after the Yankees' 4-0 loss to the Red Sox. "Any ball I did hit hard got caught. They pitched me tough. [Today's] day off will be nice to just regroup and get back to work on Tuesday."
Josh Beckett might have made Babe Ruth look bad with the way he was pitching last night, and Teixeira was as helpless as the rest of the Yankees against the Red Sox right-hander. He went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk in the game. Two of the strikeouts came at the hands of Beckett.
"He was really good tonight," Teixeira said. "Some nights you beat yourself up and some nights you tip your cap and this was one of those nights."
The final strikeout of the night came against Jonathan Papelbon and ended the game. Teixeira argued the call with umpire Mike Winters as he made his way off the field."
