Street still sore, hoping to avoid placement on DL

"Huston Street played catch at 120 feet Thursday, but lingering soreness in his right triceps could land him on the disabled list.

The Rockies' closer will play catch again today in St. Louis, after which a decision on his status is anticipated. Colorado will activate Jason Giambi? for the series, likely at the expense of a reliever. Street would not be the first choice, but if he remains unavailable, extended rest might be required for his arm to heal.

"We will know more (today)," Street said.

Street has experienced a strange season. He has converted 29-of-32 saves but allowed 10 home runs. He required just 12 pitches in an easy save on Monday, but in his previous three appearances he allowed five hits and five runs.

If Street is unable to go, Rafael Betancourt? would shift into the closer's role. He's in the middle of arguably his best stretch since joining the Rockies in July 2009. The deliberate right-hander has not allowed an earned run in 15 consecutive appearances and notched his first save this season in Tuesday's win.

Giambi has been out since straining his left quadriceps on July 25 in Los Angeles. He had no issues with the leg on a Triple-A rehab assignment and will be in St. Louis today."
