"Stephen Curry isn't ruling himself out of Sunday's Christmas Night opener against the Los Angeles Clippers, but the Warriors point guard said it's too soon to tell if his surgically repaired sprained right ankle will respond that quickly.

Curry, who sprained the ankle Tuesday night in Sacramento, attended practice Thursday but did not participate. He was able to walk without crutches, however, after MRI results Wednesday revealed he did not damage the ligaments.

"Trying to gauge how long it's going to be before I can get back on the floor, it's hard to say right now because I've never dealt with a post-surgery injury before," Curry said. "I'm optimistic that with four days of rehab, I'll be able to hopefully get back on the floor for Sunday."

Curry had surgery in May to tighten up the ligaments in his ankle and to try and prevent the chronic sprain issues he incurred last season. He said he has been playing on the ankle for two months with no issues, so to have the injury just before the start of the regular season is a bit disconcerting.

The allure of playing in the season opener is also weighing on the third-year guard, but he maintained he will err on the side of caution if the ankle is not completely ready. If possible, he said he'd prefer to get in at least one practice before the opener."
