Free agent forward Lee Stempniak is close to a one-year contract with the New York Rangers, TSN's Darren Dreger reported Friday.

The 31-year-old right wing finished last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins after he was traded from the Calgary Flames.

Stempniak had four goals and seven assists in 21 regular-season games with Pittsburgh, and two goals and one assist in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
