"The Steelers agreed to terms with veteran receiver Jerricho Cotchery on a one-year contract Thursday, a team spokesman said.
Cotchery, released by the New York Jets last week, visited the Steelers on Sunday. The receiver met with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday.
The Steelers have been looking for a veteran receiver to pair with Hines Ward and complement their young receiving corps of Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace.
The Steelers were interested in Plaxico Burress before the former Steeler signed with the Jets.
The Jets drafted Cotchery, 29, in the fourth round in 2004. He has 358 career receptions for 4,514 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Cotchery, who had offseason back surgery, made a career-high 82 catches in 2006 and '07. He scored six touchdowns in '06 and finished with 1,130 receiving yards in '07.
Cotchery will not be in Washington for Friday night's preseason game against the Redskins but will be at practice at St. Vincent College on Sunday."
