Stars GM Jim Nill held an "Ask the GM" segment on the Stars official website earlier this month. Here are some highlights from the interview.

On if the team is a Stanley Cup contender:

“Stanley Cup contending teams are teams that make the playoffs. The NHL has changed. The parity in the league is so close. We’re all one or two players from being that team, whether it’s the team above us or the team below us. … Are we a Stanley Cup contender? I think we’re knocking on the door. We need to make another step. I think us making the playoffs last year was that first step. I think losing in Game 6 was another step we had to take. Unfortunately you have to learn to lose to learn to win. I think that was hard on the guys but they have to go through that. We’re excited. We think we have the makeup of a team that can make a run for it. Now we have to go do it.”

On re-signing Jason Spezza:

“I think it’s going to happen. I’ve talked to his agent. We want Jason and his family to move in here. I think once we get him in here, get training camp rolling, I’ll sit down with his agent some more. When we made the trade the vision was he’s going to be a Star for a long time. It wasn’t just a six-month stop.”
