The Dallas Stars have demoted Jamie Oleksiak to the AHL. He’s been a healthy scratch in several game recently, and a young player like him doesn’t grow while watching from the press box. He has plenty of potential, but the 6-foot-7, 250 pound monster of a defender still needs more time to iron out his game.

He’ll get that chance in the minors.

Since the Stars used their 14th overall selection on Oleksiak in the 2011 draft, he’s managed to play in 23 games at the NHL level. While he has shown flashes of the player that Dallas envisioned back then, it typically takes larger defensemen several years to work out their approach at the NHL level.
