The Tigers have the bats and the arms, or at least they should. But now? Now we find out if they have the nerves.
It's down to the waning days, and no matter what you feel emotionally, the Tigers are in this thing logically and mathematically, probably right to the end. Justin Verlander certainly pitched like it mattered Wednesday night, battling through a taxing performance as the Tigers defeated the A's, 6-2.
These are the types of games the Tigers win, when their stars deliver in thumping fashion, as they did for the second straight night against a good opponent. Miguel Cabrera is on an incredible roll, clubbing his 41st home run, and I won't reprise the MVP debate except to emphasis what seems obvious to me. If he wins the Triple Crown — he leads in batting average and RBIs and is second in home runs — of course he's the MVP.
