"The Yankees had a half-dozen representatives named to the All-Star team yesterday, including starters Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and injured Derek Jeter. And they could've had more.

CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira and David Robertson were snubbed from the June 12 game in Phoenix.

C Russell Martin and closer Mariano Rivera were named to the American League team as reserves, and Joe Girardi said he has no problems with Jeter -- expected back in the lineup tonight -- playing. But the biggest shock was the omission of Sabathia, who has a 3.05 ERA and is tied for the major league lead in wins with 11.

AL manager Ron Washington, whose Rangers beat the Yankees in last year's ALCS, selected his own lefty C.J. Wilson. And even though Washington told TBS Sabathia would be next in line if somebody pulls out, the Yankee ace is slated to pitch Sunday, so he wouldn't pitch in the Midsummer Classic anyway.

"It's tough. A lot of guys are having good years. Had I been eligible to pitch, I would've been a little more disappointed; but I know I wasn't pitching in the game," Sabathia explained. "I felt like I've had a pretty good first half, but there are a lot of guys pitching well."

Teixeira is second in the majors with 25 home runs and fourth in RBIs with 65, while Robertson leads all AL relievers with a 1.08 ERA and is tied for the strikeout lead with 53. Martin got passed in the voting by Detroit's Alex Avila but still made the team despite batting just .222."
