"His first day at Wrigley Field as an Atlanta Brave was like many of the others this season for Derrek Lee, except he received a standing ovation before his first at-bat.
Lee went 0-for-3 against "one of my best friends in the game," Ryan Dempster, then struck out on three pitches against Carlos Marmol in the ninth inning.
Before his first at-bat, Lee stepped out of the batter's box and tipped his helmet to the fans while Dempster backed off the mound to allow Lee time to enjoy the moment.
"It can't be said enough times what a great teammate he is and what a great person he is," Dempster said. "I was happy to see the crowd give him the ovation that they did. It was weird facing him. I played with him for 11 years, not just here but in Florida, and to compete against him is a lot of fun."
"To be 100 percent honest, I'd probably rather start somewhere else," Lee said of making his Braves debut at his old home park."
