The Spurs scored 19 of the final 23 points, including 15 straight to dig out of a late 10-point deficit and defeat Dallas 90-85 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series Sunday at the AT&T Center. Game 2 is Wednesday at the AT&T Center before the series shifts to Dallas.

The Mavericks took their largest lead at 81-71 early in the fourth quarter. The Spurs, sluggish on offense up to that point, powered back into the lead with 15 unanswered points, including seven from Tim Duncan. Dallas got as close as four points with 2:05 left, but Tiago Splitter answered with two key free throws before the Spurs earned a stop at the other end.

Duncan led all scorers with 27 points despite a brief trip to the locker room after banging knees with Monta Ellis. Tony Parker added 21, Manu Ginobili had 17 off the bench to prop up a poor performance from the Spurs’ reserves and Kawhi Leonard had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Mavericks shot just 41.2 percent, and missed 10 straight shots down the stretch.
