Third baseman Kevin Youkilis hopes to return to the Chicago White Sox's lineup Wednesday night.

"Hopefully I can come out and play (Wednesday night)," Youkilis said after the Sox's 5-2 loss to Kansas City. "So we'll see (Wednesday)."

Youkilis was scratched from the starting lineup about 2 1/2 hours before the start of Tuesday night's game because of a sore right knee and received treatment throughout the game.

Youkilis intimated the knee has bothered him before. "You have aches and pains for a while, but it got to a point where I need to slow down," Youkilis said.

Manager Robin Ventura didn't rule out a return Wednesday by Youkilis, but the Sox could give him Wednesday off and get an extra day of rest with Thursday's day off.
