The Chicago White Sox sent outfielder Brandon Jacobs to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday as the player to be named later in this week’s three-team trade at baseball’s winter meetings.

The Sox acquired outfielder Adam Eaton from the Diamondbacks and sent left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago to the Los Angeles Angels in Tuesday’s trade.

The 23-year-old Jacobs spent only a brief time in the White Sox system after he was acquired from the Boston Red Sox as part of the July trade that sent reliever Matt Thornton to Boston.

Jacobs hit .244 with 33 doubles, 13 home runs and 66 RBIs in 127 games this season with Class A and Double-A clubs. He recently played in the Arizona Fall League, where he hit .256 with 12 runs and five RBIs in 13 games. He told the Tribune in October that he looked at the Thornton trade as a new beginning.
