"The Rangers are out on outfielder Carlos Beltran, according to a highly placed source with knowledge of the trade talks, narrowing the field as the New York Mets look to deal their best trade chip.
The news could be very good for San Francisco, who sources say is putting on a full-court press in aggressively attempting to acquire Beltran. The Giants are far enough along down the path that one source said a deal for Beltran could be completed today.
"It's very close" a source with knowledge of the talks told CBSSports.com.
Philadelphia remains interested as well, though the Phillies, according to sources, so far will not deal outfielder Domonic Brown.
Meanwhile, sources close to the Phillies earlier this week said the club's interest in Beltran had cooled, and one Wednesday described their chances of acquiring Beltran as a "longshot.""
