Source: Sixers 'very close' to being sold

"The expected sale of the Sixers is almost complete.

A source has confirmed that the two sides – Comcast-Spectacor and a group led by Joshua Harris – "are very close" to a deal.

Earlier Thursday, Bloomberg.com reported that a deal was expected within a few business days.

Harris, a director at Apollo Global Management LLC, heads the group that will buy the Sixers from Comcast-Spectacor for about $280 million. The buying price will look low compared to the last NBA team sold; the Golden State Warriors were sold last summer to Joe Lacob and Peter Guber for, according to Bloomberg, a record $450 million.

The difference is the Sixers' new ownership group will not have access to two major revenue sources. Comcast-Spectacor will continue to own the Sixers' arena, the Wells Fargo Center, and Comcast Sportsnet has the television rights through 2029.

Discussions about the sale were taking place in May, at which time a source familiar with the discussions said a deal was "still a ways away." "
