Sore Paul Konerko likely to miss second start for White Sox against Yankees

"The last guy the White Sox can stand to be without, Paul Konerko, likely will miss at least one more start tonight.

Konerko, who was hit in the left calf near his knee Sunday by a pitch from Boston Red Sox left-hander Andrew Miller, received treatment and didn't play Monday as the Sox opened a four-game home series against the New York Yankees.

''I don't expect PK to play tomorrow, either,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said before the game Monday. ''That's a manager's expectation. This kid got hit pretty good. It's very sore right now. Those guys in the lineup have to step it up a notch until he comes back.''

Konerko described his leg as ''real stiff, real sore.''

''When you get hit in the hand or elbow, it feels the next day like you'll never use it again. That's how bad it feels,'' Konerko said.

''It's definitely painful. It got me in a good spot that makes it tough to even walk.''

Konerko missed five games with a sprained right knee in 2008. He doesn't expect to be out that long. On the other hand, he said he ''can't imagine taking a swing now.''

Adam Dunn, who had three hits against lefties this season, played first base in Guillen's lineup against CC Sabathia. Carlos Quentin moved into Dunn's customary designated-hitter spot, and Brent Lillibridge played right field."
