For the first time this postseason, manager Mike Matheny has had to tweak his starting lineup.

Characterizing Carlos Beltran's left knee as "still sore," Matheny announced that his right fielder would be available only as a pinch-hitter in Thursday's Game 4 of the National League Championship Series vs. the Giants.

"He went through some tests and everything came back pretty clear," Matheny said of Beltran, who exited Wednesday's game after suffering a left knee strain in the first inning. "But [it is] still bothering him to the point where we can't start him."

Taking Beltran's place as the No. 2 hitter in the lineup will be Game 3 hero Matt Carpenter, though Carpenter will slide to the infield and play first base. Allen Craig, the team's cleanup hitter, will move into right field.
