Gray (7-3), snapping a personal two-game losing streak, allowed six hits over his seven innings, walked two and struck out seven.
The A's gave their young righthander a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third inning on an RBI double by John Jaso and a two-out run-scoring single by Josh Donaldson. The Rangers tied it 2-2 in the fifth, however, on a two-run bases-loaded single by Shin-Soo Choo.
