And what a first month of the season it was.

``It's been incredible just to be a part of it,'' outfielder Cody Ross said. ``To do what he's done, it's mind boggling. Every at-bat, especially with runners in scoring position, he really bears down and doesn't try to do too much. I'm sure he wishes May was April, but he can continue it no matter the month. He's that good of a hitter.''

Cantu, in his third season with the Marlins and seventh overall, has at least one hit in all but one of Florida's first 23 games.

Cantu failed to get a hit in the Marlins' 8-1 loss to the Rockies last Saturday, snapping a career-high, 21-game hitting streak that dated to the 2009 season.

With at least one hit and an RBI in his first 10 games of the season, Cantu established a major-league record. George Kelly had eight such games in 1921 for the New York Giants."
