Edmonton Olers winger Ryan Smyth, who has a two-year contract offer on the table, admits that he's had a roller-coaster season.

He had a phenomenal start, a lull, then a heavy fall points-wise.

He was all gassed up and ready to go in October, scoring 12 goals and 24 points in the first 22 games. Now it appears that he's running on fumes some nights. He has seven goals and 19 points in his last 47 games.

Overall, Smyth has 43 points, third-best on the Oilers next to sophomores Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall, and he's not on the first power-play unit.

"I have been spotty," admitted Smyth, 36, who has been getting second- or third-line play the last while.
