"Seven months ago, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith had no idea where to find wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

When asked if his top wideout would be attending the player-organized workouts at San Jose State during the lockout, Smith said, "Great question. Asking the wrong guy."

A few days later, Crabtree showed up at SJSU and seemed to fire back when asked about building chemistry with his quarterback.

"Who is the quarterback?" Crabtree asked.

Given the less-than-promising back-and-forth between the duo, it's not surprising coach Jim Harbaugh made sure Smith would have no problem finding Crabtree when they showed up for training camp.

Crabtree and Smith's lockers were separated only by the locker of cornerback Carlos Rogers."
