Kevin Slowey's MRI revealed no tears. The bad news is his flexor tendon strain requires four to six weeks of no baseball activity meaning his season might be over.

Slowey on Friday felt discomfort while warming up in the bullpen. The Marlins shut him down and after the game placed him on the disabled list. Slowey who signed a one-year minor league contract and made the team out of spring training will spend his August rehabbing.

"We just have to give it a little bit of time to calm down and strengthen everything else" Slowey said. "As much as [the timetable] is the kind of thing I want to figure out right now I know I'm best off taking it one day at a time…Nobody wants to know as much as I do when I'm going to be back to competing."

Right-hander Steven Ames who the Marlins acquired from the Dodgers in the Ricky Nolasco deal joined the Marlins on Sunday to take Slowey's bullpen spot.
