Steven Gerrard is to give Liverpool a significant boost by signing a contract extension.

The Liverpool captain, 33, has entered the final year of his current deal.

He sat out Saturday’s 4-0 win over Preston, but will be part of the squad that Brendan Rodgers takes to Indonesia tomorrow for a 12-day tour of the Far East and Asia.

The England star has made over 600 appearances for the Reds, and will no doubt end his career at the club if he puts pen to paper.

Rodgers' squad has already been strengthened considerably this summer with the signings of Iago Aspas, Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Simon Mignolet.
