For the moment, at least, Caleb Joseph is the Orioles choice to start behind the plate. Despite Wednesday’s game being an afternoon one, manager Buck Showalter has chosen to start Joseph for the third game in a row. Wednesday is his 28th birthday.

The Orioles are 12-8 with Joseph behind the plate. They’re 4-5 with Nick Hundley, the other catcher currently on the roster.

Joseph has caught Wednesday’s starter, Kevin Gausman in each of his wins and Showalter likes how the two work together. He also caught Gausman in Norfolk earlier this season.

While Showalter has said he’ll stick with six starters for the time being, that could change. For the moment he has only six relievers, and that’s been fine because in eight of the past nine games, the starter has gone at least six innings.
