"The Panthers will be missing one of their top receivers today at Detroit after tight end Jeremy Shockey stayed in Charlotte with sore ribs, according to a team spokesman.
Shockey, the Panthers' fifth-leading receiver with 24 catches for 311 yards and a touchdown, did not practice all week after taking a shot while blocking on the Panthers' first offensive play in last week's 30-3 loss to Tennessee.
Ben Hartsock, primarily a blocking tight end, will back up Greg Olsen against the Lions."
