Ryan Shazier had never been to New York City before he flew there Tuesday from Fort Lauderdale, arriving for what he anticipates will be the greatest night of his life on Thursday.

Shazier, the former Ohio State linebacker and standout at Plantation High, will be among the prospects waiting anxiously in the green room at Radio City Music Hall, where he expects to be a late first-round selection in this year's NFL Draft.

He's paying for several family members to fly up for the event, as well as his high school coach, Steve Davis.

"It's going to be an amazing experience and I wanted to take it all in with them," said Shazier, noting he first dreamed of playing in the NFL when he was 5 years old. "It's an exciting time for me. I've been all over the place. It's been a whirlwind."

On Monday, he met with the Carolina Panthers' linebackers coach in Davis' office at Plantation High and also spoke with Dolphins officials.
