As the Bruins’ heavyweight fighter, Shawn Thornton’s contributions don’t always show up on the scoring summary.

But when they do, it makes the B’s that much better.

In the 3-0 whitewashing of the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday, Thornton not only took care of the fisticuffs but also was key in creating one of the B’s three goals.

With the B’s up by two, Thornton took a big hit to turn back a Flyers breakout just outside the zone and helped create a counterattack that led to Daniel Paille’s goal, concluding a three-goal blitzkreig that took just 2 minutes, 17 seconds.

“I guess (the Flyer) tried to put it through me, I got enough of it to be able to keep it and I just threw it into an area I knew (Gregory Campbell) was going to,” Thornton said. “I was trying to make a pass but I knew I was getting hit so I just tried to get it to an area where he could get it. But he made the unbelievable play to (Paille) and Piesy with a great finish.”
