Shawn Kelley was slated to throw an inning in a game for Double-A Trenton Saturday night. If he proceeds without a hitch, the Yankees may activate the right-hander from the disabled list Monday.

“I think you have to look at how the ball was coming out,” Girardi said. ‘Was his velocity there? Was his slider sharp? Those sort of things. Sometimes it's more than just what the numbers say. Does he need another? We'll probably have a little better idea after today.”

Kelley was the Yankees’ setup man has not pitched for the Yankees since May 6 and was placed on the disabled list with a strained lumbar spine on May 13. But his job is not guaranteed when he returns because of the results Adam Warren and Dellin Betances have produced in his absence.
