Sharp putting up All-Star numbers, may earn his 1st All-Star Game invite

"Patrick Sharp will find out Tuesday if he has done enough in the eyes of the National Hockey League's operations department to be named to the NHL All-Star Game.

The 36 remaining players for the game to be played Jan. 30 in Raleigh, N.C., will be announced and the Blackhawks veteran has put himself in position to be one of the 21 forwards added. Teammates Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith were voted in by the fans.

Sharp is tied for third in the league with 25 goals, with 10 on the power play, and he's tied with the most game-winning goals at six. It remains to be seen whether that offensive onslaught and consistent play will earn Sharp his first All-Star appearance.

"I'm not really thinking about that too much," Sharp said. "It's out of my control. We have a number of guys who should be going, but we'll see what happens."

A recent goal-scoring surge certainly won't hurt the 29-year-old's chances. Sharp has seven goals — including two game-winners — in the Hawks' last eight games.

"I'm just getting in good areas to score," said Sharp, who has already matched his goal-scoring output from last season. "Scoring goals is something I've gotten better at every year of my pro career. It just seems to be going in right now."

There's no question in the mind of Hawks coach Joel Quenneville — who will be the coach for one of the All-Star sides along with assistant Mike Haviland — that Sharp is deserving.

"He's had a great season," Quenneville said. "His consistency has been the most noticeable thing, his production game in and game out. Scoring big goals for us or setting up goals, it's been a big part of our offense.""
