Sharp and Kane added to NHL All-Star Game roster

"The Blackhawks' season hasn't gone quite as expected, but that hasn't stopped players from receiving individual accolades.

Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane were named NHL All-Stars on Tuesday, joining teammates Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews, who were among six players voted in by the fans. With Joel Quenneville and assistant Mike Haviland slated to coach one of the teams during the Jan. 30 game in Raleigh, N.C., the event will feature plenty of defending Stanley Cup champions.

"I know we have four guys going and could have five or six or seven." said Sharp, who will be making his first All-Star appearance. "It's going to be fun. The Blackhawks are well-represented."

Sharp stated his case in a terrific first half to become one of the 42 All-Stars who will be divided into two teams through a draft by two captains chosen and announced next week. The veteran forward already has matched last season's total of 25 goals, with six game-winners.

"I'm proud to represent the Blackhawks," Sharp said. "If you look around our room, a lot of guys should be going, so it's an honor that I've been chosen. I've gotten better every year. It's always nice to be rewarded with this kind of individual accomplishment.

"I knew I had a chance to go, but you try not to concern yourself with that too much. You do what you can on the ice to help your team and if those perks come along, then it's a bonus.""
