The Sharks have extended the contract of coach Todd McLellan.

TSN's Darren Dreger first reported the contract extension Wednesday.

As usual, the Sharks would not disclose terms of the new contract, or publicly acknowledge that the deal was done.

McLellan will be entering his sixth season as the Sharks coach and has a 220-108-48 overall record with three Pacific Division titles. San Jose reached the Western Conference finals in 2010 and 2011.

This past regular season, the Sharks went 25-16-7. They defeated the Vancouver Canucks in four games and lost in seven games to the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference semifinals.

General manager Doug Wilson confirmed after the Sharks' season ended that McLellan would be back in the fall and that he would not make any changes to the coaching staff, which includes associate coach Larry Robinson and assistants Jim Johnson and Jay Woodcroft.
