In a decision that surprised nobody, the Giants informed right-hander Chad Gaudin that he has made the team as the long reliever. He was the favorite going into camp because of his experience and ability to start and relieve, and he did nothing during the Cactus League to diminish his chances.

The Giants had to make this move today under a new rule in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that covers players who had major-league contracts the year before but are signed to minor-league deals.

There are other relievers still in camp, including Scott Proctor and Jean Machi, but unless the Giants go with eight pitchers — and I don’t see that — there are no more open jobs.

Right-hander Dan Otero, who made the team out of spring training last year and pitched in 12 games for the Giants, was claimed by the Yankees today.
