The Giants hadn't made errors or hit home runs lately. Thursday, they collected them in droves.

As it turned out, their four errors didn't outweigh their three homers, and Matt Cain saw to that.

"We had the right guy up there. Matt's unflappable," manager Bruce Bochy said after the Giants beat the Padres 8-3. "The guy on the mound, it's important he puts that behind him, and Matt's done that. He keeps his poise out there and never gets frustrated with his teammates or run support. That's what makes him so special."
