The Senators will have to soldier on without two of their leaders.

Neither captain Jason Spezza or alternate Chris Phillips will be ready to suit up against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals Monday night at the Canadian Tire Centre.

While Phillips' foot is still hurting after blocking a shot, Spezza will miss his second-straight game with an undisclosed lower body injury that flared up after the club's 5-0 loss in Boston Friday.

Coach Paul MacLean said Spezza's injury has nothing to do with the back surgery he had in the off-season or the groin problem that sidelined him for a game in Los Angeles.

The belief is it is a hip issue and the Senators want this dealt with so Spezza isn't out for long-term.

"I think it just occurred so we're trying to nip it in the bud much like we did with the thing earlier in the year in L.A. was before it gets chronic, let's get it fixed," said MacLean.

The Senators won't call anybody up. They were pleased with the way they performed against the Bruins Saturday so there is no need to make changes and nobody missed practice Sunday.
