"After Matt Schaub undergoes surgery on his right foot next week, Texans coach Gary Kubiak wants the quarterback contributing on the sideline as soon as possible.
While he recovers from surgery to repair the Lisfranc injury to his right foot as well as a "couple of other small fractures," Schaub can serve as the team's highest-paid assistant coach and cheerleader.
"I'm definitely going to be out there helping. Anything short of having a headset on and calling plays, I'll be out there doing," Schaub said Wednesday after visiting a specialist in North Carolina.
Matt Leinart will make his first start at Jacksonville on Sunday. Rookie T.J. Yates will be the backup. Schaub was placed on injured reserve to make room for veteran Kellen Clemens, who was signed to be the third quarterback."
