"Bob Sanders' return to the NFL will be with the San Diego Chargers.
The former Indianapolis Colts veteran safety agreed to a one-year contract with the Chargers on Thursday night. The team announced the transaction on its website. Financial terms were not released.
"We are all very excited to add Bob Sanders to our defense," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said in a news release. "We have always held him in high regard. He's a smart, physical, instinctive player. His intensity and playmaking ability can make an immediate impact on our defense."
Sanders visited Buffalo, Jacksonville and the New York Jets before settling on the Chargers.
Sanders, the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was released by the Colts last month in a cost-cutting move. He was due a 2011 base salary of $5.5 million along with a $500,000 roster bonus."
