"There was no bomb to No. 17 from Mark Sanchez Wednesday. No shades of Plaxico Burress hauling in a touchdown pass over Ellis Hobbs.
Just one "regular five-yard hitch route" - Burress' words - during an 11-on-11 drill, in which the Jets wideout easily made a catch after shaking cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
"I ran a few of those in my day," Burress joked after practice in Florham Park, his first action since spraining his left ankle the first day of training camp.
Rex Ryan got a glimpse of his 2011 receiving corps together on the same field for the first time and immediately roared a Rex-ism: he dubbed Burress, Santonio Holmes and veteran Derrick Mason "scary." While Ryan said he would have liked Burress to have had a few more passes thrown his way - "I was like you guys (media). If he's out there, let's throw it to him," said Ryan - the coach liked the little he saw from the former Giant. Burress, however, was less vocal about his day, shrugging off questions about whether he felt he was "back" after serving 20 months in prison for gun possession.
"I know where I'm at, what I'm capable of doing," Burress said. "I believe I'm still one of the best out there competing. I'm not going to lose that mind-set. My mind-set is to dominate when I'm one-on-one.""
