The young defenseman could have a frequent role on the Sabres blueline this season.

The Sabres announced that they have signed defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to a two-year extension. With his signing, Tyler Ennis and Luke Adam are the Sabres only unsigned restricted free agents.

Ruhwedel has played 28 games with the Sabres since signing as a college free agent out of UMass-Lowell. He hasn't lit up the lamp, notching only one assist, but has been a steady defensive presence for the Sabres. Last season he played 47 games in Rochester, scoring four goals and 24 assists.
