New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is ready to offer Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall a Premier League lifeline.

The Saints are on the lookout for a new keeper to rival Artur Boruc for the No.1 jersey at St Mary’s.

Scotland international Marshall could not prevent Cardiff from being relegated last season, but he impressed with a string of fine displays.

And Koeman has been promised a bumper transfer kitty to revamp the Saints squad he has inherited from Mauricio Pochettino.

Koeman said: “We will always try to have better players to do something better than last season and we look forward to a great period.”
