"The Grizzlies certainly ran the gamut on their latest three-game road trip.

After losing a heartbreaker at the buzzer in Sacramento and then a nip-and-tuck affair at Utah, the Griz found themselves on the positive end of a blowout.

The Grizzlies' defense put the Los Angeles Lakers in a deep freeze on an unusually chilly night in Hollywood before leaving with an emphatic 104-85 victory Sunday night in Staples Center.

"It was the last game of the road trip, and we gave all the energy that we had," Griz guard O.J. Mayo said. "The way we played tonight was the right way, and we normally play this way against high-profile teams."

Memphis, in command for most of the game, ended the third quarter on a 13-2 run that included 11 unanswered points. That left the Griz with a 79-62 lead heading into the fourth quarter, and they never looked back.

The Grizzlies' largest lead was 26 points, and in snapping a two-game losing streak, they stunned a Lakers crowd that booed often while the two-time defending champions looked below average.

"We played the game as well as we could play it against a quality opponent," Griz coach Lionel Hollins said.

The Lakers also grew frustrated in the final quarter, as shown by Kobe Bryant's technical foul with 6:19 left. The Griz seemed to have the game where they wanted it in that decisive third quarter. The Lakers stood around and watched Bryant try to singlehandedly bring his team back.

Bryant had seven points during the Lakers' best run, a 13-2 barrage that included nine straight points midway through the third. The Lakers' leading scorer had 21 of his 28 points in the second half. But Los Angeles assisted on just 13 of its 33 field goals. Lakers coach Phil Jackson gave the Griz credit for sending his team to its third loss in the last four home games, all by at least 16 points."
