Rudi's career compares favorably

"With running back Rudi Johnson's days with the Bengals over, this is a good time to see where he ranks on the list of all-time Bengals running backs.

The following rankings are subjective and not based purely on statistics (Ickey Woods misses the cut because he had just one good season, as a rookie, before injuries took their toll):

10. Paul RobinsonBengals Years: 1968-72

Bengals Stats: 2,441 yards rushing, 4-yard average per carry, 69 receptions

The Skinny: Robinson was a major offensive cog for the Bengals his first three seasons in the league, especially in the team's inaugural season of 1968 when he rushed for 1,023 yards (in only 14 games), caught 24 passes (third most on the team) and scored nine of the team's 22 offensive touchdowns. For that performance he was named American Football League Rookie of the Year, selected to the Pro Bowl and picked first-team AFL All-Pro. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1969, too, and then rushed for 622 yards and a team-high six touchdowns in helping the Bengals win the 1970 AFC Central Division.

9. Boobie ClarkBengals Years: 1973-78

Bengals Stats: 2,978 yards rushing, 3.8 average per carry, 151 receptions

The Skinny: A 12th-round draft choice out of Bethune-Cookman, Clark was an immediate sensation as a rookie in 1973, earning AFC Rookie of the Year honors by rushing for 988 yards on a team-high 254 carries and tying for the team lead in receptions with 45 as the Bengals won the AFC Central Division. His punishing inside running was the perfect complement to Essex Johnson's outside running. He never duplicated that season but was a starter and solid performer on Bengals teams that went 21-7 in 1975-76. He ranks seventh on the team's all-time rushing list.

8. Archie GriffinBengals Years: 1976-82

Bengals Stats: 2,808 yards rushing, 4.1 average per carry, 192 receptions for 1,607 yards

The Skinny: The two-time Heisman Trophy winner from Ohio State never made the impact many expected, but he played on some bad teams in 1978, 1979 and 1980. He posted a team-high 1,105 yards from scrimmage in 1979. He ranks eighth on the team's all-time rushing list and 16th on the all-time receiving list.

7. Larry KinnebrewBengals Years: 1983-87

Bengals Stats: 2,582 yards rushing, 4.0 average per carry, 37 touchdowns rushing

The Skinny: With the team in desperate need of someone to provide the inside running after the departure of Pete Johnson following the 1983 season, Kinnebrew filled the role well, rushing for more than 500 yards and scoring at least eight rushing touchdowns each season from 1984-87. He ranks 10th on the team's all-time rushing list and fourth on the all-time rushing touchdowns list.

6. Harold GreenBengals Years: 1990-95

Bengals Stats: 3,727 yards rushing, 3.9 average per carry, 145 receptions

The Skinny: Green had the misfortune to toil on some really bad teams, but he still averaged just more than 600 yard
