Royals left fielder Alex Gordon reaped another reward from a breakthrough season Tuesday night when he received a Gold Glove in recognition for his defensive excellence.

Gordon was picked as the American League's best defensive left fielder in a vote by managers and coaches announced in a live telecast on ESPN2. The other finalists were Brett Gardner of the New York Yankees and Sam Fuld of the Tampa Bay Rays.

"I'm thrilled," said Gordon, who led the majors with a club-record 20 assists. "I couldn't be happier about the award. I have a lot of people to thank.

"It would have been nice to see my teammate, Frenchy (Jeff Francoeur), win it with me. But just to have both of us up for the award was great. When I changed positions (from third base in 2010), I never thought I'd be in this position today."
