The Redskins need a defensive coordinator to replace Jim Haslett and they’ll be looking at one of the most experienced candidates on the market this week.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Wade Phillips is scheduled for an interview in Washington this week. Phillips was out of the NFL in 2014 after wrapping up the 2013 season as the interim coach of the Texans.

Phillips has been the head coach in Dallas, Buffalo and Denver during his long career in the NFL, but running defenses has been his most successful role. Phillips has run them all over the league and those units have tended to play well under his tutelage, making it easy to understand why there would be interest in adding him to Jay Gruden’s staff.
