Rosenfels steps in to lend a hand on kicking game

"It isn't exactly a move to rock the foundation of the franchise, but for the Giants, yanking rookie punter Matt Dodge from the holding duties and inserting backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels into it could be a boost to the entire kicking operation.

Dodge is a novice holder and it showed, as he botched one last week, leading to a missed field goal attempt by Lawrence Tynes. In yesterday's 34-10 victory over the Texans, Rosenfels perfectly handled two field-goal holds, putting the second one down after a high snap, as Tynes went 2 for 2, hitting from 45 and 42 yards.

Everyone is thrilled with the change, which didn't happen until this past Wednesday during practice.

"I felt comfortable with a veteran out there," Tynes said.

Tom Coughlin explained taking Dodge out of the mix allows "Matt to concentrate only on the punting aspect."

That's fine with Dodge.

"I felt horrible when we missed two field goals, and I had a shoddy hold on one," Dodge said. "That tears me up more than anything."

The only caveat here is that Rosenfels, despite being a 10-year veteran, has only held for field goals twice in his NFL career, both in 2006 for the Texans against the Jets. On the second hold, he ran downfield to cover a return and ended up breaking his wrist."
