"Sage Rosenfels verbalized what everyone who has watched him in training camp practices this summer must have been thinking after the quarterback's performance Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"To be honest with you, I felt more comfortable out there than I had in training camp," Rosenfels said following the Vikings' 13-3 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in their preseason opener. "You feel better, guys are more excited to play. There are a lot of times in games that everything is actually sometimes a little bit easier. Everything is faster and quicker, but your body just reacts. I'm trying to get to the point of just knowing the offense so well that my body can just react to it."
He did an excellent job of this after getting the start Friday -- Rosenfels has been up and down in practices -- and thus likely has the early edge on Tarvaris Jackson in the battle for the starting quarterback job. Looking to become a starter for the first time in his ninth NFL season, Rosenfels completed his first seven passes and finished 10-for-13 for 91 yards with a 95.4 passer rating in leading the Vikings to a touchdown and field goal in their opening two series. It didn't hurt that the Colts did not play a single member of their starting defensive backfield.
Jackson will get his chance to start next week when the Vikings play host to Kansas City. On Friday, he completed seven of 15 passes for 39 yards and had a subpar 53.5 passer rating. He played into the fourth quarter.
The Vikings had more concerns than their quarterback situation after the game."
