"Rookie Kendall Hunter saw the most playing time of his career Sunday, and he responded with a go-ahead touchdown run in the 49ers' 13-8 win that spoiled the Cincinnati Bengals' home opener.
Was that increased action a result of starter Frank Gore's ankle injury? "No, no. Yes, yes. Yes and no," coach Jim Harbaugh responded. "I mean, Kendall was in the ballgame within the first seven or eight plays in the game. Then he was getting more snaps in response to Frank's ankle."
Hunter finished with nine carries for 26 yards, including his 7-yard touchdown run with 3:59 remaining.
"It wouldn't have been possible if my linemen didn't block it," said Hunter, who darted into the end zone behind blocks from left tackle Joe Staley, left guard Mike Iupati, fullback Bruce Miller and tight end Vernon Davis.
"It was well-blocked, first of all," Harbaugh said. "There was a crease, and he got up in there fast. It showed a real good burst. He had a couple other runs, too. Good game for Kendall.""
