"The day before every game, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano and his staff have a 2 ½-hour meeting in which Sparano decides, essentially, how much each player will play and in what packages.
But with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, there is less clarity. ``Some of it's a feel thing, some of it depends on how they're doing,'' Sparano said. ``The priority is fresh legs. I have total confidence in both players.''
Offensive coordinator Dan Henning calls Brown and Williams ``fairly equal.'' So far this season, they are fairly equal in opportunities, but not production.
Williams has rushed for 120 yards on 35 carries, just 3.4 an attempt. Brown had 199 yards on 37 carries, a 5.4 clip. ProFootballFocus.com, which breaks down every play, said Brown has been the 10th-best running back this season, and Williams 42nd out of the 46 who have enough attempts to qualify.
But what ``concerns'' Sparano is Williams' losing control of the ball three times in the past two games; two were ruled fumbles. (Brown also has a fumble.)
Consider this: Among the 33 active running backs with at least 500 carries, Williams has fumbled the second-most often (once every 53.6 attempts), ahead of only Adrian Peterson. Brian Westbrook is the best (one fumble every 436.3 carries), according to the Elias Sports Bureau."
