Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has scotched rumours that vice-captain Daniel Agger may be on his way out of Anfield.

The Denmark international, who will face England at Wembley next week, was unceremoniously hauled off just over an hour into the Reds' 4-3 win over Swansea.

With no obvious injury to the 29-year-old and his replacement being the recently calamitous Kolo Toure, the rumour mill unsurprisingly went into overdrive regarding the defender's future.

However, Rodgers insists too much is being read into what was just a tactical decision and that Agger, who has been previously linked with Napoli, would play against Southampton on Saturday.

"There has been a lot of spotlight, unfairly, on Daniel this week. What happened to Daniel was no different to what happened to any player," said the Reds boss.
