Brendan Rodgers is worried Daniel Sturridge will not be fit for Saturday’s Merseyside derby after the striker played 90 minutes for England on Tuesday despite hardly training due to injury.

Sturridge was suffering from a dead leg and thigh injury that saw him miss the friendly versus Chile on Friday night.

But Hodgson decided to throw him straight in against Germany on Tuesday night and left him out there for 90 minutes in the friendly.

And according to the Daily Mail, Rodgers fears that the international friendly might cost Sturridge the chance to shine in the Merseyside derby.

“I was not overly surprised he played the full 90 minutes,” said Rodgers.

“But it’s not ideal if you haven’t trained. When you see Daniel – and I have worked with him for a number of months – I know when he’s at his best.

“That’s when he has been training regularly and playing games.
