"The Yankees ' 6-5 victory today in the series finale against the Los Angeles Angels was defined by two mistakes: one that they are grateful for and another that might cause trepidation.

The first came with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning in a tie game. Mark Teixeira hit a meek ground ball to second baseman Maicer Izturis that looked like an easy out as he charged in, but Izturis fumbled the ball and allowed Teixeira to reach and load the bases.

That was just the window the Yankees needed with Robinson Cano striding to the plate, riding a hot streak the last two weeks. He took one pitch from reliever Scott Downs, then crushed an 89 mph sinker from the lefty off of the facade of the second level in right field, his fifth career grand slam, to give the Yankees a 6-2 lead.
